And They Brought Him Gifts: The Mysterious Magi
Core Truth: No celebration of Christmas would be complete without at least some reference to the Magi, usually as the “three kings.” However, there is no scriptural evidence that they were kings nor that there was just three of them. The larger question is – why they were included in Matthew’s account of Christ’s birth to begin with, and does their being part of the Christmas story have any significance for us today?
Scripture: Matthew 2:1-2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King (Herod the Great), Magi from the east came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
