Czech Missions Trip 2009 Updates
> 21 June 2009 <
10:30 pm Czech Time (4:30 pm US) Today was a long day. It was good, but it was long. We have been on the move since 6 this morning. It was nice to get at least 5-6 hours of sleep last night. We woke up early for breakfast so that everyone would be able to prepare for church and the band would be able to practice. Our band did a fantastic job during worship (they have a much better guitar player than they had last year J).
We started worship at 9:30 am and it was a great experience where we felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. As you can see from the pictures, the place was packed! Several people came to visit because they heard a group from the US had come to the church. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will soften their hearts and minds to His word. After the band played, Christine and Julia shared their testimonies with the church and did phenomenal! You could tell they were being used by God. David did a short devotional on prayer that was right on target.
After our worship service, we had some photos taken of our group and their church, then made our way to lunch with the people from the church. We went to Medieval Themed restaurant where everyone was treated to some local favorites, which yes, did include liver balls for those who were brave. Then, Tom disappeared mysteriously for several minutes. Suddenly, a crazy person dressed in a suit of armor came charging across the field towards us, screaming and waving a sword... after a moment, we realized that the crazy person was none other than Tom. After some interesting family pictures, we headed back to the church to meet with Plymouth Haven back home via webcam.
Our team and the church here really enjoyed being able to share with the church back home. This was very special to all involved on this end. The youth had some fun hanging out for a few hours with the Sokolov youth while some of us went to the site being considered for their new church building. The site is an abandoned nuclear bomb shelter. The church is considering purchasing it from the town to be able to reach more people, including a school that is right next door. It will be a lot of work though as you can see from the pictures. We headed back to the church for another filling meal (these people can and like to cook) and an evening service where we reviewed the plans for the Sports Evangelism starting tomorrow. Speaking of which, Dr. Solc, a professor at South Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary has just published a new book on the topic. Sports is a cross-cultural ice breaker and a great tool for evangelism.
Tomorrow will be a full day - please pray that God will guide us in our endeavors and bless us!
