Czech Missions Trip 2009 - Updates
> 20 June 2009 <
I am sitting in the lobby of the Park Hotel in Sokolov, typing this update on my laptop, while the karaoke band in the other room sings "One Moment in Time."... Not sure they know all the words. Anyways, it has been a crazy 24 hours. All good stuff though! We left the church at 4 pm after taking in communion with our family members. Immediately we got on the road and made it to the Airport with plenty of time to spare...except for the fact that one person left their only suitcase at home. I won't name names for the sake of being nice, but thankfully a close friend was able to get the suitcase and drive it up to the airport before we left.
After a little craziness there, we boarded our flight to Munich. Left a little late, but made it in plenty of time. A few people got some sleep on the plan, but for the most part people stayed up. This led to a lot of sleeping in Munich waiting for the plane. The trip from Munich to Prague was a little different. It was a 50-passenger plane that took off in the rain. Needless to say, we were slightly shaken by arrival.
We were able to meet up with David, Dr. Solc and his family, and the International Mission Board missionaries assigned to Prague to deliver some well deserved goodies they missed from home (shampoo, Atkins bars, Reeses Puff cereal, etc.). They are doing a great work here in Czech, ministering to a culture that almost completely turned their backs on God. Please keep them in your prayers.
From there we spent about 2 hours in the bus heading to Karlovy Vary, a spa town near Sokolov. The interesing thing about this place is it is built on hot spring that is said to have healing properties, according to the legend. Basically, it's mineral spring that is fed into a building at different temperatures. Most everyone braved the new experience and tried some of the water - a few people even drank it as tea.
After the hot spring water, we headed to Sokolov and checked into the Hotel, only to find we had to squeeze into only a few rooms because a German Soccer team trashed their hotel rooms a few nights ago and they are not cleaned up yet. Nothing like spending some time in close quarters to bring you together as a team. We then headed to the church where they served us an excellent meal (don't know what it was called, but it was good!!!)
We made some plans for the day, then headed back to the hotel...after Dr. Solc explained the menu for tomorrow, which included soup with "liver balls." After some hysterical laughing (mostly from Dr. Solc) we called it a night. We prayed and headed back to the Hotel.
We are here, we are in great spirits, and we greatly desire your prayers as we seek to do God's work over the next week. Please pray that God opens doors and soften hearts.
(please forgiv ani tipos or misspellings as I haven't slepd in close to 40 ours)
