Czech Missions Trip 2009 Updates
> 25 June 2009 <
10:15 pm Czech Time (4:15 pm US)
Well, as I write this we are on our way to Prague. Today was our last full day of ministry in the Czech Republic. As I am writing this I am sitting between Joe and the driver. It is amazing how sharing the Gospel gets into you and you feel the need at all times. Joe started this journey to Prague by witnessing to the Czech man driving the van.
This morning, we started by taking a much needed rest, sleeping in until whenever we woke up. Of course, I woke up at the normal time out of habit, but many of our youth were so exhausted that they slept until 11am. After lunch at the church, we had a tour of the ministries the church runs in Liboc and Olovi. The house in Liboc that we worked on last year looks a lot different. It is now covered with another layer of insulation and plaster. The basement has been turned into a garage for teaching the former prisoners automotive skills. Then we traveled to Olovi where we stayed last year and spent some time with the residents and hearing the pastor's heart for these people. We also really enjoyed getting to meet our cooks who prepared our food for the week.
Next, we headed back to the church for a meeting. We talked about the week we had and the work that had been done. I can tell you our team is excited about mission work and want to carry this excitement back home. We took communion as a group and prepared for our last church meeting.
The service featured 4 testimonies: Gordon, Alice, Joe, and David. They all did an excellent job sharing from their lives and the way that Christ has affected them. The band did 3 songs...and then we were surprise3d by a special duet: Joe and Hugh. They sang Deep River. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. We have it recorded for posterity, coming soon to Facebook. They have become great friends on this trip.
I was allowed to preach one more time to the people and deliver the gospel message. The night was good, and several people came from the schools to see us off. God has moved not only among the Czech people, but among the missionaries from Plymouth Haven. There has been a change in several people, that has been a privilege to see.
Tomorrow, we will tour Prague, so as long as we don't lose anyone, there won't be much to report. Then, 3:00 am we leave for the airport on Saturday and back home. I miss my wife and kids, but this trip was certainly an experience to participate in. It was a moving, humbling, encouraging, discipling, and God-honoring trip.
And now, as a missionary who will remain anonymous is singing in his sleep, it is time to sign off.
In Christ,
Matt
